Exibition on 7th November 2009

"Saddlebags from Northwest Persia and the Caucasus" The following pictures can only give a limited overview over the many bags shown, which were made by Shahsavan tribes, the Kurds, Afshars, Kordi and Azeri. The doublebags and bagfaces were mostly handmade around 1900 or in the 2nd half of the 19th century. Almost all textiles had vegetable dyes. The were produced predominantly in sumakh technique, or kilim, while the small silk bags were made of silk jajim i.e. warp faced.
Show & Tell on 7th November 2009 Presented were pieces from the possessions of participants, in the beginning saddle bags according to the topic of the exhibition, followed by other textiles of members.
